The founder, owner, and head baker of Yamanto Central Patisserie, Leon Ly, has emerged with four prestigious awards from the Queensland Baking Show 2023, clinching the highest honor for the best white hi-top half loaf.

This recognition propels Yamanto Central Patisserie to the forefront of Queensland’s bakery scene, being the home to the state’s finest white hi-top loaf of bread.

For Leon, these awards are not merely accolades, but a reflection of his family’s journey towards securing a safe, happy, and prosperous life in Australia.

Leon’s journey began when he moved to Brisbane from Vietnam in 1998, at 16, along with his family, anticipating a fresh start and the chance to reconnect with his great-grandmother, whose escape from war-torn Vietnam brought her to Australia in 1981.

With a deep-rooted passion for baking and food, Leon ventured into the bakery business, finding mentorship under the founder of Ray’s Patisserie, which further fueled his aspiration of owning his bakery.

Fast forward to the present, Leon owns multiple bakeries, including the acclaimed Yamanto Central Patisserie, inaugurated in 2021 at the Yamanto Central Shopping Centre in Ipswich. Positioned at the main entrance’s front left, the patisserie welcomes shoppers as the first food outlet they encounter.

“I am extremely honored by these awards. My routine of working 14-hour days, six days a week, in baking and managing, while continuously exploring new innovative ideas to create exhilarating products for our customers, has truly paid off,” expressed Leon.

He extolled the versatility and delight that bread and pastries bring to the table, from being staple sandwich ingredients to becoming delectable treats for any time of the day.

“These awards echo the exceptional quality of the offerings at Yamanto Central Patisserie, and I anticipate more visitors to our center to experience the remarkable products that have garnered such praise,” Leon added.

Expressing her pride, Yamanto Central Shopping Centre’s owner, JMK Retail’s general manager, Vicki Leavy said, “Having Yamanto Central Patisserie as a part of our community here has been an honor. Their recent accolades are a testament to the fantastic bakery products that are almost irresistible as you pass by entering the centre.”

Since its inception on the opening day of the shopping center in 2021, Yamanto Central Patisserie has become a staple, and now with the recognition from the Queensland Baking Show 2023, its reputation has soared beyond the local boundaries.

Vicki further highlighted the diverse offerings of the Yamanto Central Shopping Centre, from a wide range of retail outlets to health, wellness, food, and dining facilities, epitomizing it as the core of Ipswich’s shopping and lifestyle. With ample free undercover parking and proximity to public transport, the shopping center extends a warm welcome to all.

“The accolades received by Yamanto Central Patisserie at the Queensland Baking Show 2023 underscore the superior food and shopping adventures awaiting everyone at Yamanto Central Shopping Centre. Though we opened only in 2021, we are on a fast track to becoming the prime community hub for shoppers throughout the region, and that’s a milestone we hold with high regard,” she concluded.
